What the visual approach offers

The product lists seven arrangements: Cover Arc, Carousel, Ring, Flip 3D, Panorama, Grid and 2D Row. A flat row is available if you prefer less spatial movement. Selected-window live previews and trackpad navigation are intended to help recognize content before focusing it.

A visual arrangement can be useful when the contents distinguish two otherwise similar windows. It is not the same as a named saved task group. We have not measured animation smoothness, switching latency or memory consumption on a test machine.

The important difference is inside the browser

Search can include individual tabs as well as windows. The official browser list includes Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Brave, Edge, Vivaldi and Opera. Tabs can be stacked by window, shown individually or shown during search, according to the product page.

This is the feature to evaluate if a window-only switcher keeps bringing you to the right browser but the wrong page. Open Contexts selects browser windows, not each tab; its saved window groups therefore address a different problem. Browser support should still be checked with your own profiles and private windows.

Hardware and permissions come first

The download page requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later and Apple silicon. Intel Macs are outside those listed requirements. The app asks for Accessibility to focus windows and Screen Recording to draw their pictures. If you do not want to grant those permissions, check that before judging the visual workflow.

Open Contexts supports Intel and Apple silicon on macOS 13+ and needs Accessibility access for its title-list workflow. It has no thumbnail grid, search or gesture switching. Fewer permissions alone do not prove better performance or privacy; compare the behavior and published policies that matter to you.

What the license includes

The seven-day trial unlocks every feature without an account or card. Personal is listed at $19.99 for up to two Macs; Team is $49.99 for up to five Macs and includes priority email support. Both are one-time purchases with current-major-version updates and a 14-day money-back guarantee.

The pricing page includes VAT in listed prices, with final currency and amount shown at checkout. Do not treat current-major-version updates as a promise of every future major upgrade. If free window previews are enough, compare AltTab’s free core before paying.

Use the trial on your real workload

  • Check hardware and OS eligibility before installing.
  • Review Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions, then test a shortcut that does not conflict with another switcher.
  • Find a specific tab across several supported browsers and profiles; check private-window behavior.
  • Compare a 3D view with 2D Row while using similar-looking windows.
  • Try minimized, full-screen and other-desktop windows, plus every display you use.
  • Check whether search actually replaces your current browser tab search and window switcher.

Who is likely to find it useful?

It is a relevant option for Apple silicon users who want one interface for visual windows and browser tabs. Its license is easier to justify when tab-level navigation is a recurring need rather than a feature you rarely touch.

Choose Open Contexts for a free title list and saved task groups, or evaluate AltTab for free previews. Try the workload first; this documentation review is not evidence of measured speed, battery life or stability.
